“Google Maps” is getting a new feature, and here is what it improves

Nowadays, it seems nearly impossible to keep something like your location a secret, and we are often left at the mercy of companies to take the appropriate steps to ensure this.

“Google Maps” is getting a new feature, and here is what it improves

To achieve just that goal, Google has released new location controls for Maps designed to give you better control over what data is captured and where.

One of the most significant changes being introduced is the option to save your Timeline directly to your device instead of the cloud.

If you do not already know, the Timeline is an encrypted record of all the areas and attractions you have visited. You need to turn on location history; it is off by default, to activate Timeline.

As part of the Google Maps update, Location History will automatically delete your data after three months, compared to the previous 18 months. However, you can delete all information whenever you want or you can turn off automatic deletion. Additionally, you can turn off Location History at any time.

Google Maps will also let you click on your blue dot on the map and see settings like Location History and Timeline. The shortcut lets you change how much of your information is shared and stored on Google Maps without having to go into settings.

Similarly, Google Maps is adding an option to delete location-specific data. For example, if you searched for a restaurant for a secret date and want to keep it private, you can delete directions, searches, shares, and more.

This feature and the blue dot shortcut will roll out in the coming weeks to Android and iOS, but the ability to save your Timeline directly to the device will become available over the next year.

Wood energy

Wood is considered humankind’s very first source of energy. Today it is still the most important single source of renewable energy providing about 6 percent of the global total primary energy supply. More than two billion people depend on wood energy for cooking and/or heating, particularly in households in developing countries. It represents the only domestically available and affordable source of energy. Private households’ cooking and heating with woodfuels represents one third of the global renewable energy consumption, making wood the most decentralized energy in the world. Woodfuels arise from multiple sources including forests, other wooded land and trees outside forests, co-products from wood processing, post-consumer recovered wood and processed wood-based fuels. Wood energy is also an important emergency backup fuel. Societies at any socio-economic level will switch easily back to wood energy when encountering economic difficulties, natura...

Heating oil

Heating oil is any petroleum product or other oil used for heating; a fuel oil. Most commonly, it refers to low viscosity grades of fuel oil used for furnaces or boilers use for home heating and in other buildings. Home heating oil is often abbreviated as HHO. Most heating oil products are chemically very similar to diesel fuel used as motor fuel; motor fuel is typically subject to higher fuel taxes. Many countries add fuel dyes to heating oil, allowing law enforcement to check if a driver is evading fuel taxes. Since 2002, Solvent Yellow 124 has been added as a "Euromarker" in the European Union; untaxed diesel is known as "red diesel" in the United Kingdom. Heating oil is commonly delivered by tank truck to residential, commercial and municipal buildings and stored in above-ground storage tanks ("ASTs") located in the basements, garages,...

Chinese firms turn away delisting as U.S. review guard dog gets full examination access

The U.S. bookkeeping guard dog on Thursday said it has full admittance to review and explore firms in China unexpectedly, eliminating the gamble that around 200 Chinese organizations could be started off U.S. stock trades. The assertion from the Public Organization Bookkeeping Oversight Board (PCAOB) marks a triumph for U.S. controllers and a help for Chinese firms, including Alibaba, confronting delisting in the midst of rough relations between the world's biggest economies. Washington and Beijing have been secured in a warmed exchange and innovation war. "Without precedent for history, we can perform full and exhaustive examinations and examinations to uncover expected issues and consider firms responsible to fix them," said PCAOB Seat Erica Williams. "This falls into the classification of a game changing perspective on Chinese organizations in light of the fact that the danger of their delisting appears to have been dispensed with," said Craftsmanship Hogan,...
